‘SHIRT MAKING’ FULL-TIME PROGRAMME

This training programme will run its course across two years, IN ADDITION TO A PERIOD OF SIX-months OF mandatory internship.

Undertaking the Shirt MakING programme will help students develop skills necessary to become bespoke shirt makers encompassing the technical aspects of collar, cuffs, and shirt making AND FINISHING.

TECHNICAL PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

This dynamic programme teaches the skills that go into the making of a bespoke shirt, encomassing the essentials of pattern drafting and cutting, a broad spectrum of figuration and ways to correct them, cloth cutting, fitting and remarking. Becoming a shirt maker encompasses the making of a shirt collar in different iterations, the making of cuffs in different styles, and understanding the overall balance and harmony between shirt collar and face shape.

Students will need to execute the technical training by way of first-hand measuring, draftting, cutting, and configuring their bespoke pieces.

Students will complete the making of a handmade and hand finished shirt in addition to learning how to make shirts in different configurations or styles - such as shirt jackets, and even safari shirt jackets, and will train using different types of fabrics - oxford, seersucker, flannel - in order to grasp how each fabric type reacts differently to cut, style, or tailoring.

Students will be introduced to a variety of tailoring techniques - they will learn an extensive range of hand stitches, machine stitching, how to shape the foundation of a shirt, design, illustration, hand canvassing collars, hand-make buttonholes, and make high armholes and shoulder.

COURSE DELIVERY

BTA’s programme will be delivered in highly equipped tailoring premises. The instructors are all experienced Lebanese bespoke tailors averaging 40 years of experience.
